每个FlexLogix系统中有一个多用途的可编程序控制器。用户将I/O点分布到与传感器或执行器距离更近的位置。并且，可以将多个FlexLogix控制器连到同一网络用作分布式处理。
FlexLogix控制器具有Logix控制引擎，因此该控制器支持Logix指令集、任务模型和数据模型。使用RSLogix5000编程软件对FlexLogix控制器和其它Logix控制器进行编程和I/O组态的步骤是通用的。1794 I/O产品提供的模块化组件包括一系列数字量和模拟量I/O(包含智能I/O)。一个简单的FlexLogix系统可以由一个控制器和最多8个I/O模块组成
